The Wolfblood Tribe

Hunters bound by the Blood of the Wolf

Many moons ago, three families were exiled from their tribes. These three were the Tayuun family, the Jackya family and the Dhavha family. Each were cast from their people for taking an aggressive stance on the interactions with the city dwellers of Gridania. They travelled the Twelveswood independently until a hunting party of the Jackya stepped into Tayuun hunting grounds. To resolve the situation peacefully, elders of both families agreed to meet upon neutral territory. Both families found common ground in their beliefs, a shared ideology of hatred. Within a few months, the outcast Dhavha family sought refuge from a storm within the camp and thus were accepted into the fold. More recently the Tribe adopted the family of Mihk'a's mate, Chi, into their numbers, Chi herself and three sisters, following their liberation from their own mother's control. The first recorded settlement of the Wolfblood Tribe as a whole was in an abandoned wolf den. It was there they adopted the idea of the Wolf as their tribal totem. A creature that was known for ferocity, intelligence, hunting skill and pack loyalty. The structure of the clan grew from this. The eldest of the fierce Tayuun family took up the mantle of Matriarch, advised by the Elders of the Jackya and Dhavha. Rituals were established, most of which centred around either their Totem animal or the hunt. The tribe decided not to settle for too long, adopting a nomadic lifestyle. This was in large part due to their antagonistic relationship with the authorities. Where they settled, the tribe laid down fierce claim with no respect for land rights or ownership. This led to many conflicts with the authorities, many of which ended in violence. The tribe are known only to respect the laws of the Twelveswood and the Wolfblood, along with their devotion to Menphina.Perhaps as a moral compass, a sense of guidance, a new faction of the Wolfblood was birthed. Those known as The Faithful. Young women of the tribe, trained as Priestesses of Menphina. The High Priestess of the Tribe was permitted to be part of the council of Elders also as her loyalty to her family was superseded by her Duty to the Divine.Eventually the feud with Gridania grew to a head and rather then risk an all out war they were sure to lose, the Matriarch of the Wolfblood (Mihk Tayuun) signed the Uneasy Truce. The Tribe would avoid setting claim to settled land and observe the most basic of laws and in return they were allowed to continue their way of life, albeit under scrutiny.Although any of the families can challenge for the right of Matriarch, since the tribe’s inception the role has been filled by a Tayuun. The particular branch of the family within the tribe is known to produce savage hunters with many of the males of the bloodline afflicted with what can only be described as blood lust, losing control in the heat of the moment and giving over to instinct. The tribe is comprised mostly of females with the male residents of the camp either being visitors or under the age of sixteen years. Once a Wolfblood male reaches the age of sixteen years, a celebration is held to herald this and he leaves on the Path of the Lone Wolf the following day. These males are welcomed back to the tribe with open arms when visiting however will find no permanent home there. The previous Matriarch of the Wolfblood Tribe wass Mihk Tayuun. Although getting on in her years now, she remains a formidable force to be reckoned with. Surrounded by her daughters, she holds court on all tribal matters, acting as arbiter in all disputes. Although they are now scattered and far afield, she still keeps an eye on her sons, calling upon them when necessary to serve the needs of the Tribe if required. Since stepping down, she now retains the position of a venerable elder of the Tribe and advisor to the new Matriarch. In recent days however the rule of the Wolfblood has been handed over to Vala Tayuun who, despite the influence of her mother, adopts a far more progressive stance. Her first move is to settle the Tribe for good, giving up the nomadic lifestyle and allowing a more permanent residence in the shroud. where the tribe goes from here however is a story yet unwritten...
